Since Daniel was two his interest in telephones has done nothing but grow. And if there is a rare moment that he’s on the internet, it may be because he’s watching something like this:
Here’s his smaller version of a switching system:
And here’s a close up:
Ya gotta love it!

What a bright guy you’ve got there. Awesome.
Cool stuff there Theresa.
Thanks guys. Jay and I were chuckling at how he was utterly GLUED to youtube watching other switches and relay systems. The comments on such clips revealed a whole world of like-minded telephone hobbyists.
He insisted that we listen to the different ring and busy tones with him for awhile. So we did.
Did I ever tell you that my ex was a switchman at the phone company?
That video really brought back memories for me – my mom worked for Michigan Bell until the day she died, and I remember sometimes going to work with her on Saturdays. Sometimes we would walk through the central office (where they have all the switching equipment), and if you can imagine a ginormous room filled with miles and miles of multicolored wire, and, oh, I don’t know, hundreds of those contraptions clicking and whirring all at once…and every central office had the same smell (I don’t know – maybe from the plastic coating on all those miles of wires.)
Anyway, Daniel would have been in hog heaven!
Cool stuff, Theresa. That is so neat.
