I absolutely love Sir Ken Robinson’s thoughts on education. Using the factory approach to educating children—the approach used today—is a broken, outdated model that needs to be razed. This video is only a few minutes long and I urge you to watch it.
With the dramatic changes in the job market, it is incumbent upon parents and educators to rethink how we’re doing school if we’re going to prepare our kids for a happy successful future.

Excellent there, Theresa. I also loved his TED talk he gave a few years ago entitled, “Schools Kill Creativity”: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html
Most in the public school system don’t get it and I fear they never will. Thanks for sharing. I put it out in Twitterland for all my tens of faithful followers to find.
Thanks, Dave. Yeah…I posted that other one a few months ago. It’s so refreshing to see someone with all the credentials speaking out on the need for educational reform. (The “Sir” is also a Ph.D.)
I don’t know that the public schools will ever get it….that’s why I hope to encourage parents to take notice…and take control.
Okay, T, the first step is to recognize that the current system is not working – next comes the hard part: how do we go about changing the current model. It’s challenging but can be done if the public demands change. You’re right, parents & teachers is where change will begin.
Man, Marce- I’m sure if we could just settle in at Starbucks for a three-hour cup of coffee we could get it all figured out.
I think part of the crazy thing is that we’re in the midst of so many changes and NO ONE knows where this this is heading. The changes in the job market have turned everything upside down and inside out.
But yes…it must begin with the parent acknowledging these changes and considering their kid’s educational bent and needs. What makes it so difficult is so many parents haven’t figured out their own bents to begin with.
Chatting here makes me miss you all the more.
